Last night we had our annual general meeting. At the meeting Neil, our Chair, talked about some of the achievements that we have made over the past year and took the opportunity to thank all of the staff for the considerable part they have played in this.
We were really sad to say goodbye to Howard, who has retired from the Board after a massive 16 years of service. Last year the trustees changed the governing document of the charity to state that trustees can only serve a maximum of three terms of three years – this is seen as good practice by the Charity Commission. This did mean that four of the longstanding trustees retired last year but Howard, as Vice Chair, stayed on an extra year, at the request of the trustees, to support Neil in his first year as Chair. Howard asked that we did not give him a gift so it was decided that we would buy some garden furniture for Claro Road in Howards name. We will miss Howard very much, he has been a great support and ambassador for the charity, but we know that he will continue to be a friend for many years to come.
