    Residential Care for Younger Adults

34 Claro Road is a residential care home for younger adults (18 -65) with physical disabilities.  We are experienced in providing support to people with a range of physical disabilities, although we do not provide nursing care.

It is situated in the spa town of Harrogate which has many superb facilities and leisure opportunities and is convenient for local amenities and the town centre.

What we do

At 34 Claro Road we focus on achieving positive outcomes for the people that live there.  Our main objective is to provide training in the skills required to live independently with the end outcome being that people are ready and confident to move into the community.

We aim to enable people to move on within two years of coming to us, but this can sometimes take more or less time.

What it looks like

The centre provides accommodation and training for twenty people and is divided into two ten person units.  All of the individual service user rooms have an ensuite shower room, contemporary furnishings and mobility or daily living equipment as required including ceiling tracked hoists.  Service users are encouraged to personalise their rooms as they wish.

The communal lounges and dining rooms are spacious and airy.  Each unit has a fully accessible kitchen where service users plan and prepare meals with the assistance of staff where required.

As people feel ready to move into independent living they can spend some time in our two person training flat where they can live independently but with the knowledge that the staff are available if needed.

The centre is WI FI enabled throughout and each room has access to Freeview television (subject to personal equipment)

A typical day

There is no such thing!  Every service user has an agreed Individual Service User Plan which shows any support or personal care needs, how they wish to spend their days and the desired outcomes they wish to achieve.

Service users are supported to attend college, training, leisure activities and volunteering.  We can provide staff support if needed and in some cases we will fund external training.

The people who live at 34 Claro Road are fully involved in the running of their home.  They plan, shop and cook meals, they are involved in staff interviews and hold regular unit meetings to discuss relevant issues.

All of the staff at 34 Claro Road are fully trained in all of the skills they need to work with and support service users.  We make sure that staff training is up to date and relevant to the needs of the people that live with us.

I enjoy mixing with other people but like having my own room as well. I go to college and spend quite a bit of time on my computer doing course work (and chatting to my friends). Everyone who comes to live with us has an assessment so as we can make sure that we are able to provide the support that they need.  We also encourage people to have a trial period before making a final decision.
