    All charities need effective governance to ensure that they are managed properly, have sound policies and procedures and make key decisions about the direction in which the charity should go.

How We Are Governed

Disability Action Yorkshire was founded in 1937.

Disability Action Yorkshire is:

  • A company limited by guarantee incorporated 24 January 1995
    – Company Number 3013324
  • A registered charity, registered with the Charity Commission 22 February 1995
    – Charity Number 1044373


The Board of Disability Action Yorkshire are responsible for the governance of the organisation.   Board members are both Directors (Companies Act) and Trustees (Charities Act.)

The role of the Board is to provide good governance and leadership by:

  • Understanding their role
  • Ensuring delivery of organisational purpose
  • Working effectively both as individuals and as a team
  • Exercising effective control
  • Behaving with integrity
  • Being open and accountable
